The Camera Captured Images Of Olivia Rodrigo’s Y2K Red Carpet Look Included a Leather Tube Top and Low-Rise Pants

Nostalgia was in the air as Olivia Rodrigo embraced 2000s fashion at the 2023 Billboard Women in Music Awards. The “good 4 u” singer paid homage to pop icons of the early aughts with her skin-baring leather top and wild printed pants look.

Rodrigo lit up the red carpet in a brown leather tube top that nodded to the era’s love of bustiers and corset tops. Stars like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson often rocked barely-there leather bustiers and bra tops in the 2000s.

Rodrigo made the sultry top her own by pairing it with low-slung cream pants stealing the spotlight. The flared trousers featured a horse print and were reminiscent of fashion in the early 2000s when wild prints were all the rage.

In a moment of sheer pop culture brilliance, fashion sleuths realized Rodrigo’s pants were the same Chloé pair worn by Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw character on Sex and the City in 2003.

The 19-year-old music sensation complemented the outfit with minimal accessories including simple cream pumps and stacked rings. Her glam was understated yet stunning with lightly flushed cheeks, neutral pink lips and gently tousled waves.

Rodrigo Presents Inspiration Lana Del Rey an Award

Rodrigo attended the Billboard event to present an award to one of her biggest musical inspirations – Lana Del Rey. While honoring Rey with the Visionary Award, Rodrigo gushed about the singer’s artistic influence.

“Lana has raised an entire generation of music lovers and songwriters like me and taught them that there’s beauty in their vulnerability and power in their melancholy,” Rodrigo praised.

Rodrigo credited Del Rey’s defining 2012 song “Video Games” with sparking her own musical ambitions, calling it “probably the best love song of all time.”

“She captures sadness, anger and sensuality in a way only the greatest of songwriters ever could,” the Grammy winner continued about the alt-pop pioneer.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Personal Style Embraces Nostalgia

The Disney actress turned pop sensation has made nostalgic fashion her staple. With each red carpet event, awards show and talk show appearance Rodrigo pays homage to icons past.

Rodrigo’s personal style evokes femme fatale glamour with Gen Z spunk. The sultry black gown she wore to the 2022 Met Gala nodding to Old Hollywood icons like Marilyn Monroe. Meanwhile, her 2022 AMAs dress channeling early Britney Spears in a body-hugging pink rhinestone dress.

However, the 2000s seem to be Rodrigo’s favorite decade to emulate. In recent months she’s donned lace-trim baby tees, newsboy caps and graffiti-print sets popular in the Y2K era. Even the cover art of her record “Sour” features Olivia in butterfly hair clips for a very 2000s-inspired look.

At just 19 years old, Olivia Rodrigo has cemented her status as the voice of Gen Z. However, her nostalgic style proves she also embraces strong pop culture influences from the early 2000s. We can’t wait to see which icon Rodrigo pays tribute to next!
