Once upon a time, there was a dog named **Spot** who lived in a small house in the countryside. Spot was a very obedient and lovable dog. He loved to play with his owner and the children in the neighborhood.
One day, Spot turned 5 years old. Spot was very excited because this was his first birthday. He had been looking forward to this day for a long time. He had imagined a grand birthday party, with cake, toys, and lots of friends.
But then, Spot’s birthday arrived, and no one congratulated him. Spot’s owner was working all day and didn’t come home. The children in the neighborhood were also busy playing with each other.
Spot was very sad. He sat alone in the corner of the house, looking at other dogs being celebrated by their owners. Spot wondered what he had done wrong that no one remembered his birthday.
That afternoon, a girl named **Mai** walked past Spot’s house. The girl saw Spot sitting alone in the corner of the house, so she stopped to ask:
“Why is this dog sitting alone?”
“It’s his birthday, but no one is congratulating him,” a woman walking by answered.
Mai felt very sorry for Spot. She went into the house and took out a small birthday cake. She brought the cake out to Spot and said:
“Happy birthday, you cute dog”
Spot was so happy to be congratulated by Mai. He took a bite of the birthday cake and ate it happily. Mai and Spot played together all afternoon.
Spot was very happy that he finally had a friend to congratulate him on his birthday. He thanked Mai for giving him a memorable birthday.
Since then, Mai often came to play with Spot. She brought toys and food for Spot. Spot was very happy to have a friend like Mai.
Spot still didn’t have a grand birthday party, but he wasn’t sad anymore. He knew that he had a friend who loved him and would always be there for him.
